There is no doubt that keywords in domain name are effective way to get top ten position in Google SERPs for those keywords. Well, please don't make any wrong assumption, i am talking about:

Exact Match (If you have domain name like "fatlosstips.com", chances are your site will be found in top for this exact phrase without search engine optimization)

.Com Domains (often this work but sometimes it does not work for .org or local TLDs but when you compete it with .com domains, they will lose)

A years back in a SEO contest I had observed that keywords in domain name was really working high in many search engines.

However search engines has changed their algos to keep less consideration or weightage of keywords in domain names for following reasons:

• Spammers have misused by registering hundereds of "long-tail" domains to rank them for exact match.
• Now a days its almost impossible to get register a domain name with exact match.

The above mentioned factors have stopped me to play with this tactic, but recently one thing turned me back to it.

I was doing keywords analysis for one of my project and the most competative keyword was "mobile software" and landed on site http://www.mobilesoftware.com/ which is actually seems not followed search engine optimization guide lines and still in SERP 5 in Google.com
